The Water Palace
Mixed Media Painting
on canvas with wood cut frame
33" x 33"

This fairy tale comes from Poland. It is a story about an unhappy marriage between a Princess and a king. The only pleasure she derives is the "water palace" which the king owns. Dreams lead the king to distrust the princess who escapes one day to the water palace only to be followed by the king's men with evil intent. As she runs into the water she is enveloped while the king's men die as they follow. Such symbols like the arrows that are used to awaken her resemble tales throughout history like Cupid and Psyche.
