In the Grimm's fairy tale, "Six Swans", six brothers fall under a hex and are turned into swans. Only their sister could undo the spell by knitting for them six sweaters in which they would take their human form. Unfortunately, their sister was mistaken for a witch and the people of the town wanted her to hang. Unshaken she kept knitting the sweaters as her brothers flew to her rescue. She threw up the five and a half sweaters leaving all brothers to take their human form except for the one left with a birds's wing.
